Default @ Houston Galleria store purchasing 3G iphone

i'm at the galleria purchasing the new iphone

walked in @ 8am, been in line since 5:30 am (first 12)
because of a corporate discount process is much longer at apple store...if u have corporate discount GO TO ATT STORE!

will update as soon

apple rep very helpful and friendly
att rep - claims "they were NOT trained for this"
ATT also told apple rep - "they should have been properly trained"

Was told that my corporate discount will hinder my ability to purchase the 3G Iphone!
i have to go to an ATT store!

rep is speaking with a different ATT rep now.

i was just told i'm not able to purchase the 3G iphone because i'm not eligible for upgrade which was crystal clear to me considering that i've only had the ATT tilt for 9 months...ok so i was already aware of that and the ATT reps keep telling us what we already know.

So all i want is to buy the 16 gig iphone without the upgrade for $499 and so far it seems impossible!


***update they(ATT) will let me purchase the iphone for 399 or 499 - again told us we must go to ATT corporate store! Apple rep is furious with ATT reps right now!!!

still here @ apple

no updates yet...still talking with ATT reps

** update - So far we have spoken to 4 ATT reps over the phone, no one is willing to transfer us to a manager to sort things out.

*** update - meanwhile i'm calling local ATT stores and they all agree that i should stay put if i want an iphone today

I got the iphone! unfortunately since the iphone had a corporate discount, I could not purchase an iphone at the "early upgrade price" at the Apple store. i was told that i needed to go to an ATT store to make the purchase, so i called several stores and they told me that i was better off purchasing one at the Apple store because they didn't have enough stock to provide for current customers standing in line.

What did I do? I signed a new contract and got the iphone at it's discounted price and I will be porting my second line to the new iphone. I'll cancel the original ATT line next week.

can you upgrade to the 3g from the original iphone and only pay for the phone and not the upgrade?

yes you can, it will be either $199 for 8gig or $299 16gig

Default Will ATT charge to cancel the original line?

Does this work? You say that you'll cancel the original ATT line next week, won't ATT charge you a cancellation fee to cancel the new line you just created with a 2-year contract?? I'm in the same boat trying to by an iPhone and put it on my corporate account but there is no simple way to do this. You're method as posted above seems to be the only likely scenario but I was wary of paying a huge cancellation fee. Your feedback is appreciated.

from what i understand you can pay cash but the guy next to me was declined. His problem was due to his credit score and they will not accept cash for the deposit ATT was requiring. Deposits must be paid with credit card.
