A MAN whose self-esteem is so low he identifies himself as a beast has admitted to downloading images showing sexual acts with an octopus.

Rodney Scott McLagan, 48, of South Arm, was caught with 31,000 images and video files involving sexual acts with children, dogs, ponies, snakes, tigers and an octopus, The Mercury reported.

The office equipment worker, whose job involves deleting computer hard drives, pleaded guilty in the Supreme Court in Hobart today to possessing child exploitation material and bestiality products.

Crown prosecutor Jane Williams said police found the material on computers and discs discovered during a search of his home on January 6 last year.

She said the children in the images were both sexes and aged between five and 15.

His defence lawyer David Barclay said McLagan, a single man with no children, had little or no interest in child pornography.

He said the images found were downloaded in bulk along with the bestiality material.

"In respect of the child exploitation material while there's a lot of it he only looked at 20 per cent," he said.

"He searched the internet for the bestiality material but there was no active search for the child exploitation material."

He said McLagan was drawn to the bestiality images due to a personality disorder he suffers from.

Mr Barclay said the disorder results in such low self-esteem that he identifies himself as being "some sort of beast".

"It explains how he sees himself and why he commits this type of offence," he said.

Justice David Porter bailed McLagan to reappear for sentencing on July 17.

So often you can bring all of these acts and behavioural patterns back to the person in questions childhood. They usually have a rough upbringing or have a condition that needs treating/addressing before it gets out of control. I myslef know how easy it is to find material on the internet that you're not looking for. As an example when I was downloading a movie, some idiot had gone through and posted links to the trailer and really the link was cloaked and it was just a link to child porn. Just to confirm I didn't click the link and never do until I read all comments and see if others say it's safe. So many people jump on downloading sites and post bogus links when the link really takes you to something else. You really have to be careful what you click on these days and I don't think enough people are actually taught about Internet Security or general tips and tricks. So why I believe those claims aren't real in this case, because he obviously kept the material and didn't delete it, a lesson for all can be learned from this. Don't click links on unsecure sites - you just never know where they really go! Thanks for the story

Octopus?

So what, it was like a human having sex with an octopus? That sounds really difficult. I don't know about the other stuff, but if he had octopus sex images maybe he just wanted to see how the hell that was possible. I mean, unless it was just a small octopus, you would have to what, get a full wetsuit, ride a boat, find one, film it, find a place to penetrate it, which seems like it might be dangerous, I think their beaks are sharp, (might be thinking of a squid) then what, reach sexual climax somehow? Even if you were into bestiality that doesn't seem like it would be worth it. I mean, it would be like me saying I wanted to have sex with a 80 year old Romanian peasant woman, for level of effort involved versus potential payoff. Also, was the part about the octopus in the headline? I mean, that just seems bizarre. Why would they point that out over the child porn and other, "regular" bestiality stuff. The octopus thing is so out there, it almost takes the focus away from his more run of the mill psycho porn addictions.
