If you consider that on average there are 4 planets per star (seems fair considering the solar system has 8-fuck you Pluto- and some will obviously have less or none), in an average galaxy therein lies at least 100 billion stars, and within the universe there are believed to be around 100 billion galaxies. As you can imagine, this is a rather staggering number (4*10^22 planets assuming the averages). Now, the probability of life occuring, that is the mutliplication of the different axioms required for life, is far less than this number (I do not know the figures, but I am confident with this claim nonetheless, as there are doctors of biology who work effortlessly with this sort of problem) and so it is safe to claim that life is more than a probable event. If you are tempted to think "But why does life exist HERE?" Just realise this fact- it is BECAUSE you are here. It is an equivalent question if we lived on Mars or Mercury or Europa or on Upsilon Andromedae C, much as it is to ask why we are living in a universe capable of sustaining life. It can sustain life, otherwise we would not be around to waste are our time asking why it can. I realise what I am saying is as big a cop out as claiming some spectral being has created us for her own sick pleasure, but I am not egotistical enough to believe we were put on this earth for a reason, more than we happen to be the result of evolution and fluke. This is not a nihilistic approach, because what is more soul destroying than the belief that we were here for the purpose of sending out God's message to other humans (who must also be put on this planet for the same reason) and failing (because trust me, you guys are)?



Actually, one person dies because a piece of bone fragment snaps and its jagged edge severs an artery, resulting in heavy blood loss. This heavy blood loss results in human tissue being deprived of oxygen, and so is unable to respire, and therefore energy, and so uses up its own mass to keep going, resulting in withering, decay and ultimately death. The other perons, by contrast, is cushioned either by an airbag, their own fat or, quite possibly, the other carcass that sits beside them. This is not a theistic situation, there are simply many factors which increase the probability of one person surviving the crash whilst the other perishes.

There ends the regional atheist's rant. You guys really need to come up with some arguement for your cases, otherwise this is will be a rather bland discussion thread =)
