You will be awakened to English literature- it was a vital piece of text as far as the english language is concerned (many common phrases arise within the text)- but it is not a source of truth. Considering that this book is responsible for people denying the beliefs of Galileo and resulting in his house arrest up to his death in 1642, I find it difficult to take it as a source of information. If possibly one of the prophets or disciples were to have written the principle of relativity and claimed to have been a message of God in 24 AD, then it may be seen as a more believable source.

One thing I would like to answer for me, why is it seen that atheists are intrinsically immoral? There is a worrying mindset among theists that if you do not believe in heaven then you feel no need to do good to others. I hope I don't need to spell the worrying underlying message to this idea, but for those who need it then here I go:

If I do not believe in the existence of heaven, then I must have no need to do good to others? Is this implying that you are doing good to others solely for the purpose of having a pleasant existence after this one (assuming you guys may be correct on the off-shot)? This is rather a selfish and degrading form of morality I have to admit.

A staggering number of atheists are high-up, intelligent members of all communities, make no mistake, and I'm pretty confident that these people are charitable people- they take their kids to football games, they help elderly people when the situation arises, they donate to charities, etc. I realise they are small time sort of things but I am somewhat lost to describing what is best seen as charitable these days (I'm so old fashioned....). Do you honestly imagine that doctors, nurses and people who work in social care programs are all christian? A large number believe in God as much as they believe in the Spaghetti monster (some less so), and I'm betting they don't go home at night and believe "Well I bet I have secured my place in heaven now".

I apologise for the rant, but I honestly do believe to be such a nasty mindset for people have- good deeds are done to benefit the race and the individual, not to help a person find paradise later on. Making a person smile or laugh after a hard/upsetting day is one of the best feelings in the world, so please do not spoil it with this sort of belief.

On another note, I would ask people to please read the arguments presented so far in this thread. I realise that a lot of posts have been made, but some of the "I believe/I don't believe" one-liners can surely be omitted. I do write a bit in mine but this is simply so people can at least see something other than what your *insert title for spiritual leader* has taught you from a very young age. Humans are amazing free-thinkers, so please exercise your ability to do so- read one side of the argument you had not thought about or contemplated before and make an honest decision one way or the other. There are some excellent posts in this thread and I heartily recommend you following the logic of the posts as a means of broadening your horizons in a non-chemical way =)

thanks for being rude!so do you think becoming rude is doing a good deed to others?
if you think you are worthy just because of doing good to others without believing in God,well let me remind you that Satan can do good too and satan can go to church too.
